Training (Birthday) Run – May 8, 2020

Today was my birthday and the day ended up being more office work than I had hoped for. I was frustrated by this and by the fact that I didn’t end up getting to do what I had planned on. Finally, I got out for a run although I wasn’t excited to do so. Fortunately, running is a de-stressor for me and the run ended up being great! I even went a mile farther than I had planned on and…

Training Runs – May 7, 2020

For training today we did another 2-a-day and on our morning run we did hypoxic training for 3 miles. The benefit of hypoxic training is that it simulates altitude training without being at altitude. Hypoxic training basically trashes your capillary beds and then you rebuild them which increases blood flow and endurance. Today’s run stats: Distance: 9 miles Time: Morning: 49:51 Evening: 42:51 Elevation Gain: Morning: 361 feet Evening: 373 feet Average Pace: Morning: 10:23/mile Evening: 10:12/mile Distance run in…

Training Run – May 6, 2020

Today I was not motivated at all to get out and run the trail in fact I was dreading it. All afternoon as I worked I was wishing I didn’t have a training run today. I was feeling really tired due to the hard training on a daily basis and the late nights up trying to get everything done on my to do list. When we finally started out the door for our run I started out walking and finally…

Training Runs – May 5, 2020

Today was a 2 a day training regimen with hypoxic training. We ran this morning and this evening. On our run this morning we did hypoxic training for 3 miles. Hypoxic training means that you hold your breath while running then you breathe while running and repeat. For example I start by running 6 steps while breathing and making sure that on my 6th step I breathe in. Then I hold my breath for 6 steps. Then I increase to…

Training Run – May 3, 2020

Sunday was a longer run day. We decided to get out earlier in the morning and avoid the afternoon heat. It was a really nice temp out for running. Melinda’s right hip felt great the entire run with the left being a little bothersome. It however is feeling much better than 2 months ago! It was a beautiful morning for a run with great views, and a snake sighting at the end of the run. Today’s run stats: Distance: 12.02…

Training Run – April 29, 2020

Today was the 16th day in a row that we’ve run and I could feel it. The climb up liberty cap was the slowest ascent on that trail that I’ve ever had. It was such a beautiful day and the views were incredible making the climb worth it. Two more days of running and we will reach 18 in a row! I’m looking forward to our day off from running this coming Saturday. Today’s run stats: Distance: 9.25 miles Time:…
